Fascinating Hebrew Word Revelations
69Hebrew Fascination
It all began when I picked up a fascinating read by Rabbi Daniel Lapin called "Buried Treasure" In his book he explains how in the Hebrew language, the language that the Old Testament was written in, each word describes itself by the letters that are used to build the word.
Hebrew is an ancient language (some believe the origin of all other languages) that was once represented by symbolic pictures. All 22 letters of the Hebrew Alphabet are each represented by one of these symbols that are used to build words that will help us form concepts.
A simple example of this would be the Hebrew word for father, spelled AV in Hebrew. The letter Aleph which is represented by on ox, representing strength and leadership and a vet, representing a house, home, or family. If you join the two concepts together you get the idea that God wants us to know that a father is a strong leader of a home and family.
This may be stating the obvious but this method of understanding biblical words from the original Hebrew text can add greatly to our understanding of His Word. Not all concepts are as easily decoded as father and contain hidden elements not otherwise understood without getting the entire "picture" It adds another dimension that could not be seen nor understood previously. It should be stated as well that this cannot be done with other languages.
Apparently God is more than a linear, logical, sequential thinker and communicator.
These things truly are buried treasures and kind of remind me of doing an archaeological dig or excavation of an ancient language that contain thoughts and ideas from the creator of all things.
Most modern languages are simply phonetic sounds that we have learned to associate a word and its meaning with. The Hebrew language provides us with the visual concept through these ancient pictographs.
One thing I like about this method God designed in His language is that these pictures and associations don't change. In modern language a word might mean one thing at one time and a decade later it might mean something else. God's language never changes. You can't change a word picture. An ox will always be associated with what an ox has always done, does, and always will do. It will never change. This makes His word even more dependable.
Along with these pictograph concepts there is another revelation with certain Hebrew words called Bio-Agri-Linguistics. This is where God uses Biology, Agriculture, and language to communicate concepts as well. These are three things all men would be familiar with and be able to understand. A foundational verse communicating this concept:
Matthew 4:4 "Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God"
Man is the biology, bread, is the agriculture and word is linguistic.
An example of this would be. The Hebrew word Kavod is "glory" but it is also the same word for liver. In English this would mean nothing and be considered an exception to the rule. In Hebrew however God uses the liver to communicate something about glory. One concept is that the liver is the heaviest organ in the body and one of the most essential. God wants us to understand that glory is heavy, that it matters, and that to glorify God is to consider Him as essential and valuable and that He would weigh heavily on the scales of our estimation of Him.
The hubs that are to follow will include a lot of these pictograph and bio-agri-linguistic concepts.

I enjoyed reading this. A good friend of mine is an author with five degrees who is deep into Hebrew words. He writes a daily devotional, which is quite good, centered on a Hebrew word or phrase that is misunderstood in English.
Wonderful! I just found you and will follow the bread crumb trail. This is too good not to! Thank you!
Wow I really respect your knowledge and appreciate you sharing it. Very well put together hub. Rated up and awesome.
Fascinating Tamarajo! And makes perfect sense! I wish I had the time to study Hebrew in depth, I think it would cause many Scriptural passages to gain even more clarity and provide deeper understanding. Thanks so much for sharing these with us! I will watch for more!

Be blessed sister!
Tamarajo,

Actually, Revelation was probably originally composed in Greek, and the New testament books, Aramaic, Greek or Roman Latin. The only books in Hebrew are all old testament, and ancient Hebrew is slightly different from the modern. Elohim does mean Gods plural.
